MS-DOS and CCDOS
/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MS-DOS is an operating system developed by the American company Microsoft for IBM PC microcomputers; it is also called IBM-DOS or PC-DOS. It is a single-user, single-task microcomputer operating system, and its main functions are file management and device management. DOS means Disk Operating System.
MS-DOS uses a hierarchical modular structure, and it consists of three modules and one boot loader, BOOT. These three modules are: the input/output system IBMBIO, the file management system (also called the disk operating system) IBMDOS, and the command processor COMMAND.
The boot loader BOOT is assembled into sector 1 of track 0, side 0 of the disk when the disk is formatted. BOOT is used to load IBMBIO and IBMDOS into memory.
The input/output system IBMBIO is at the innermost layer of MS-DOS, and it consists of two parts, ROMBIO and IBMBIO.COM. The input/output system is responsible for driving peripheral devices and ensuring that these devices operate normally.
The file management system IBMDOS is the core part of the entire operating system. Its main task is to manage all disk files and is responsible for establishing, deleting, opening, closing, reading and writing, and retrieving all kinds of files. IBMDOS provides a series of system function calls to the outer modules; through these function calls, the outer-layer programs of MS_DOS or user programs can conveniently use the resources of the microcomputer system. The command processor COMMAND serves as the interface between the terminal and the system. It is the outermost module of MS-DOS and is responsible for accepting, recognizing, and executing the various commands entered by the user from the terminal.
CCDOS is a Chinese character operating system developed for IBM PCs by the Sixth Research Institute of China's Ministry of Electronics Industry. It was developed on the basis of MS-DOS, adding Chinese character functions to its file management system (IBMDOS.COM) and basic input/output system (BIOS).
