I'm really stupid, really. I had only heard that reinstalling the system was a pain, but I never thought it would be this hard to deal with. I'm just a newbie. I have all the tools needed to reinstall the system, I just don't know how to do it. I hope some expert can take the trouble to give me some pointers (how to install it, and whether I also need to deal with the hardware drivers), thanks. (I want to install 98 or xp, whichever is easier) (I don't know whether it's possible to reinstall without formatting C) Please don't hesitate to teach me.

Not formatting C won't work, because I don't know what system you were using before.

You can just run setup in win or in dos and install it, install it into your original directory, then you won't need to reinstall the original software, xp can be installed to another partition, no need to format... 98 takes less time to install

A system installed this way still has hidden risks. If the previous system was brought down by some driver or software, then after reinstalling like this it still may not work. But this method is still suitable for someone installing a system for the first time.
