I installed 98 and XP, and then installed MS-DOS71. When entering 98, the system prompts: “WINDOWS encountered an error while accessing the system registry, WINDOWS will restart and repair your system registry for you.” After restarting, 98’s screen resolution and color quality both become the lowest settings, and after adjusting them, it’s the same again after rebooting. With no other choice, I formatted drive C: and installed DOS first and then 98, but the result was still the same. 98 can’t even drive the sound card and graphics card. Could the experts please tell me how to solve this?

Did you choose the correct installation option when installing DOS? Also, you can first enter the Win98 directory, then use the WIN command to enter Win98 and try it.

I chose full installation, just YES, NEXT all the way through. I just tried your method, and the problem is still the same. As soon as I install the graphics card driver and restart the computer, the prompt appears again.

I just tested it on a real computer. After successfully installing MS-DOS 7.10, booting into DOS and then directly using the WIN command to enter Win95B works completely normally, with no problem at all.

But if you chose the wrong option during the last installation, there’s no way the next installation could return to normal either (because the original WIN path was already modified during your incorrect installation; I mentioned this on the forum before), so reinstalling would be the same. But you can first enter the directory where Win98 is located, then use the WIN command and try it.

I installed DOS after formatting drive C:. Where could the mistake in “choosing the wrong option during installation” be? Please let me know, moderator. Also: entering the directory where Win98 is located and then trying the WIN command still gives the same problem.
