The PC-DOS 7.01 downloaded from this site is an *.IMG file. If I use the software “WinImage” to extract it onto a floppy disk and boot the computer with this software, the computer says there is no boot disk. But if I use the write-to-floppy method, then this software can boot. I also tried using “WinImage” to extract it to a folder on the hard disk first, and then copying it to a floppy disk, but it still would not boot. Why is this? (This does not happen with MS-DOS *.IMG files.)

There is nothing “strange” about it; this is normal. Because when you extract it to a floppy disk, the boot sector is not written, so the PC-DOS boot disk cannot boot! But your original boot disk already had an MS-DOS boot sector, so after extracting/writing, it can boot either way!

Then I want to copy the three main files from the PC-DOS 7.01 boot disk to a hard disk partition, and then use IBM’s one-key recovery method to treat that hard disk partition as the boot partition. So what should I do to make that partition boot because it has PC-DOS on it?

Use the SYS command to transfer the system files.

But PC-DOS doesn’t have the SYS command. What should I do?

The following is quoted from walu’s post at 2004-1-4 23:00:58:

That can’t be, can it? PC-DOS 7.01 (that is, 2000) definitely has the SYS command. PC-DOS 7.10 is the one that indeed does not have the SYS command.
