As titled

I tried various Chinese character support systems together with ntfsdos, and none of them worked.
ntfsdos itself should also have this function, but when I use the /n command to load an nls file,
others work (Japanese, Arabic), but Chinese 936 just doesn't. It says: c_936.nls is unavailable
Please advise, please advise

I just took a look and found that only a simple modification to the C_936.NLS file is needed, and NTFSDOS can recognize it. That way, NTFSDOS can completely display the Chinese and English long filenames on NTFS partitions normally under DOS. I have now uploaded the modified C_936.NLS (Simplified Chinese) and C_950.NLS (Traditional Chinese) files here. Just load them with the /N:936 and /N:950 parameters:

Just to clarify, NTFSDOS can only run under pure DOS to drive NTFS drives, and cannot run in a DOS window under WinNT/2K/XP systems!!

Wengier is really amazing! This thread should be added to the digest!

After testing, when used together with UCDOS, it can correctly display Chinese long filenames,
but it still can't enter Chinese directories or access Chinese files, and it also can't create Chinese directories.
Using f-prot to kill viruses, it cannot scan and kill Chinese files under NTFS partitions either.
(My original purpose was to be able to scan and kill viruses on NTFS partitions under DOS,
and this ended up bringing out so many problems.
Actually, using Jiangmin's antivirus companion can already solve this problem,
but I don't like Jiangmin, because it absolutely requires booting from a floppy.
Besides, I also want to learn how to use NTFSDOS)

I'm using UCDOS 7.0 and the registered version of NTFSDOS 4.03.
The NTFS partition was formatted with WINDOWS 2003,
and the NTFSDOS boot disk was made under XP. I also tried a boot disk made under 2KSP4,
same result, it didn't work.
The NTFSDOS boot disk made under 2003 is unusable.

C_936.NLS, C_949.NLS and C_950.NLS can all be modified in the same way
that is, just change the first 3e to 80.
But I still don't understand why it has to be changed this way.
I guess it may have a little to do with the file size, but I still can't find any connection.

Jiangmin's Kv2004 can be used without booting from a floppy; it can also run from a CD, though it's not very stable. Rising can do it too, but for virus scanning under DOS I still prefer using NAVCE's NAVDX.

Could it be that your NTFS formatted by Win2003 isn't supported by Ntfsdos 4.03?
You can try using XP or 2K NTFS and see whether it works normally.

Huge thanks to Wengier!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm using NTFSDOS PRO 5.03. In order to be able to read and write Chinese files, I went through all kinds of trouble and tried countless DOS versions.
