Recently, inspired by the forum admin, I added pure DOS 7.10 on top of my original WinXP and WinME dual-boot system. Now starting the DOS system from the boot menu is extremely fast; but there is one small flaw, and I hope to get some advice from the forum admin. I have always supported DOS.
What I did was rename the extensions of DOS 7.1's msdos.sys, io.sys, command.com, config.sys, and autoexec.bat all to .dos, then copy them to drive C (the partition where WinME is located), and then modify the boot.ini file (using the win95, win95dos parameters) to make it work. The result is pretty good, except that after DOS 7.1 starts, there is always a line saying "can't find win.com,can't
continous loading windows". Although it does not affect use, it is still not perfect enough. I spent three days and tried every possible method, but still could not get rid of that line. So I am asking the forum admin for help!

Could it be that there is a problem with the settings in the MSDOS.DOS file?

Just delete all the contents inside MSDOS.SYS.

Many thanks to you both for the advice. I checked msdos.dos carefully, and it is exactly the same as the one in DOS 7.10. Under DOS 7.10 it has already been renamed to
msdos.sys, but no matter how I changed it, it was useless. In a fit of anger, I deleted msdos.sys under DOS 7.10, but the problem still remained. Could it be that some other msdos.* was still taking effect? Then I thought of msdos.w40, which is the msdos.sys from Windows me; under DOS 7.10 it has now been renamed to msdos.w40. Finally I deleted it under DOS 7.10, rebooted into DOS 7.10, and everything was fine. The problem was finally solved. But can Windows me work without msdos.sys? (I found that when booting into Windows me, it takes longer now.) Also, why is msdos.w40 taking effect under DOS 7.10? Is there no perfect solution? I hope to get more advice again from the forum admin and all the experts!

That is a matter of priority. Try adding a line in WinME's msdos.sys: BootGUI=0. Anyway, it will not affect WinME (because WinME is not like MS-DOS 7.1; it usually ignores this item), but it can make MS-DOS 7.1 stop looking for the WIN.COM file.
