After the last time I installed DOS 7.1 and crashed the system, I reinstalled the system again. I installed DOS 6.22 on drive C,

and XP on drive D, (C is the active primary partition) then I used DOS 6.22 to install DOS 7.1, but in the end it showed

unable to load command.com, and the cursor just stayed there without moving. So I rebooted. Fortunately I had a backup way out and could

still get into XP. After entering ms-dos there was only a cursor, I couldn't type anything from the keyboard, and couldn't do anything at all! I

installed it with floppies! What do I need to do to get into DOS 7.1? After booting, there are two selectable menu items,

one goes into XP, one goes into dos. I copied it to the floppy for installation only after extracting the image.

Please don't copy it like that!

First, download the DOS 7.1 installation disks here (it's best not to install dos6.22 first):
http://dos.h-t-t-p.com/dos71_1.zip
http://dos.h-t-t-p.com/dos71_2.zip

Use WinImage or similar software to *write* the IMG image files to the floppy disks, instead of copying them to the floppies!!!

Then start the installation. The best installation order is to install MS-DOS 7.1 first, then install WinXP. The reverse order is possible too, but it's more troublesome. If you already have dos6.22, install MS-DOS 7.1 on top of it first, and then install WinXP. It's best not to do it in the opposite order! Just think what the result would be if you installed WinXP first and then dos6.22?? The principle with installing MS-DOS 7.1 is similar, so to a large extent this is human error.
