I once installed DOS 6.22 and found that the whole hard drive had been formatted afterward (extremely heartbreaking), and a lot of valuable stuff was gone. I see many people here are trying to install DOS, and this is very dangerous. How are you all installing it?

This kind of thing won't happen when installing MS-DOS 7.10.

Can that be guaranteed? I'm really scared. If it does happen, is there any remedy?

That was a problem with the ms-dos6.22 installer itself. And this problem should not exist in the ms-dos7.10 installer.

Look at this sentence:
Explanation: If the hard drive has not yet been partitioned or formatted, the installer will automatically partition the hard drive, format it, activate the partition, and so on. Then it will continue with the installation of MS-DOS 7.10.
That time, before installing, it formatted my hard drive first and only then installed.

That's right, but that only happens when the hard drive has *absolutely* no partitions at all. Only then will it ask whether you want to create a new partition and format it (note: even in this case it will only create a new partition, and will not delete or format any existing partition; and if there is already any partition on the hard drive, even an invalid partition, that operation will not be carried out). Also, before doing it, it will let the user choose whether to proceed. If the user chooses "No", then it won't create it, so it should be quite safe.

Thank you so much. You have no idea how nervous I was when installing DOS. Now it's finally installed, and not a bit of data was lost.
But there's still one small problem. At the very last prompt during installation, the one that asks whether you want to continue, that sentence seemed to say that if you chose to continue, it would automatically boot from DOS. I didn't choose to continue. After restarting the computer and pressing F8, I found there was no option there to boot from DOS. What should I do? The operating system is windowsMe.

At what point do you need to choose "Continue"? And after booting now, if you don't press F8, where does the system go automatically?

I used the two-disk installation. It was the first prompt that appeared shortly after inserting the second disk.
I'm not very clear on what that sentence means, but if it really means what I said, then I wouldn't have been able to get online and ask you all for help.
If I don't press F8, the system enters windowsMe.

Do you mean the following prompt:

MS-DOS 8.0 and Windows ME might be already installed on
your system. If you continue, MS-DOS 7.10 Setup will
probabaly make them unbootable.

If you mean this one, then just follow this prompt and your own wishes to make the correct choice...

Yes yes, that's the one!
If I choose Continue, will the system automatically boot into windows, or DOS, or will it add a boot DOS option into F8?

If you choose Continue, then the system will automatically boot into MS-DOS 7.10, and WinME will become unbootable; if you choose not to continue, then the installation of MS-DOS 7.10 will be aborted.

Then how can I make the system boot into winMe automatically, while adding DOS to the F8 menu?

If you really want to achieve a dual boot of MS-DOS 7.10 and DOS8/WinME, I suggest using a multitask manager to do it, for example the startup menu from WinNT/2K/XP can do it.
