Question: What command should I use under WIN98 DOS to copy files over a LAN? - China DOS Union Forum

I'm a complete newcomer, and I don't understand anything, but I'm very interested in DOS. I saw someone in Computer News testing transfer speeds over a LAN under DOS, but after looking at it for quite a while I still couldn't understand:
From WIN98 DOS, execute:
1. Use the command FTP 192.168.0.1 to connect to the machine with the file to be copied first, but how do I know whether the connection succeeded?
2. After connecting, use get X.XXX /D: /null to copy the file, but no matter what I do I can't get it to copy. I'd appreciate some guidance from an expert. They say null is a parameter that doesn't write to the hard disk.

If FTP isn't enabled, how could you possibly use the ftp command?
