This is the automatic installation file I put on drive A:, just modify it... :
@ECHO OFF
LH A:\MSCDEX /D:IDE-CD >NUL
A:\smartdrv 2048 >NUL
E:\WinXP\I386\winnt/u:E:\WinXP\unattend.txt /s:E:\WinXP\I386 /t:
CLS

Copy I386 to the E:\winxp directory, /t <-——install to drive D: ; the automatic installation file is under E:\winxp ; first use setupmgr to make the automatic installation file: unattend.txt

What do @ECHO OFF and >NUL mean?
Also, if I want to install from CD instead of using drive A:, how do I do it?

If the CD-ROM drive letter is x, then in dos switch to x: , then cd i386 , winnt and that's it... load smartdrv first

Where exactly should the command to load smartdrv be added?? Before cd i386? Or after entering winnt???? Also, I tried entering cd i386 in DOS before and it seemed not to work. I'll write it out, please help me see if it's right:
format c:/u/q
Name of drive C::(SYSTEM)
F:\cd i386
winnt
Can XP be installed like this??? If it needs to be loaded, where should it be added???

format...
f:\>
f:\>cd i386
f:\i386>
f:\i386\>winnt works
Installed 98? smartdrv is under windows if it's installed; if not, find the 98 installation disc, it's in there; or just boot from a floppy. Better yet, download wingier's boot disk from the forum. After booting with it, at A:\ type smartdrv 4096 , press Enter, then ->cd f: (your CD-ROM drive), then winnt.
Actually you'd be better off just spending a bit over 10 minutes installing 98 directly, then installing from within 98, much faster than dos...

Hehe, you've got me dizzy too; ^-^ In 98 just open the CD F: ; click setup and that's it.
