I think booting from a USB flash drive is very good; all kinds of utility software can be put on it at any time for use, which is very convenient. Nowadays most motherboard BIOSes basically support booting in usb-zip.usb-hdd. mode. I think it's even better than booting from CD.

So how do you make a USB drive into a boot disk?
I've searched the forum for a long time and still couldn't find it.

There should be a boot disk creation tool on your USB drive's driver disc, please look carefully.

I think each has its own strengths. For USB drive booting, the USB drive itself also has to support booting. I personally prefer booting from CD, then loading the USB drive to exchange data.
If the USB drive itself supports booting, it seems that simply formatting it as a boot disk will do.

Too bad, the boot disk creation tool that came with my USB drive can only be used under 98.

No problem. After making it once in 98, later you can just directly modify the files on it and it can become all kinds of system disks, much more convenient than floppies.

Actually it's very simple to make
Under 98, choose the format option that copies system files and format the USB drive. After formatting is finished, there should be 4 files on the USB drive (including hidden files): Io.sys ,msdos.sys,command.com,drvspace.bin
Then just change the BIOS to boot from USB-HDD or USB-ZIP

After I boot with a DOS 7.1 boot disk and detect the USB drive,
I just format it directly.

Method for making a USB boot disk under WIN2K/XP:
1. First disable the floppy drive in Device Manager
2. Turn on the USB-FDD switch on a floppy-disk-like device that supports USB drive booting, then connect it to the computer, and the computer will treat the USB drive as drive A or B
3. Just find any bootable dos image file and use tools like Floppy Image to write it to the USB drive

Where can I find the "just find any bootable dos image file" mentioned by the poster above?
It has something to do with the size of the USB drive, right?
