Could one of you tell me what the similarities and differences are between DOS under Win98 and the command prompt under WinXP, and which one is more powerful?

Do you mean the difference between MS-DOS mode under Win98 and MS-DOS mode under WinXP?

Yeah, although XP and Win98 have different kernels, there isn't much difference in the interface and operation they present. Relatively speaking, though, XP provides more DOS commands, they’re more powerful, and also more stable.

The commands in XP's command prompt are not DOS commands, but Win32 console commands. They cannot run under pure DOS.

After hearing what the site admin said, I learned a bit more! — I still like DOS622 better

The DOS622 version is a bit too old, and its compatibility is relatively poor too. It's better to use the newer DOS710.
