Now even Linux is being suppressed very hard by Microsoft, and can only retreat into specialized fields. Actually Linux was never designed for personal computers at all, so if it wants to enter the desktop field it has to carry out a thorough revolution! The software under Linux has also become full of commercial stink now, and its backward file structure and system structure can no longer compare with XP. Very few big companies are developing big programs for it anymore. MAC too has been forced by Microsoft to change its face and seek another path for development. Actually MAC is backward too, even though it used to be ahead before. It’s just that Mac is good at packaging itself; after using it for a long time you’ll find it’s not as easy to use as Windows. DOS seems to have long been abandoned by the times. Its most fatal weakness is that there is no interface between drivers and the operating system, so everything is fragmented and every side fights on its own. Programs are simply incompatible with each other, and there isn’t even any data transfer capability. I think there is no need for it to keep developing anymore, especially for personal computers. The current FreeDOS32 is developing in the direction of a microkernel, for use in embedded devices. I’m actually a complete DOS enthusiast too, otherwise why would I come here. I’ve been using computers since 1996, so I have some qualifications, but facts cannot be changed after all. The IT field develops very fast; if you fall behind, you get eliminated. Right now I mainly use DOS for diagnostics. DOS is still okay for that, and its compatibility is strong. As for other things like multimedia and networking, they’re simply out of the question.
Discussion welcome

Linux won't do. FreeDOS is the real operating system of the future for personal users. Take a look here:

I think the key still depends on the overall environment of world technological development... If everyone used Linux, Linux would surpass the Windows series; if everyone supported DOS, DOS would develop too...
We have to make it so that everyone can support and accept DOS.

Linux is only hanging on because of a few server programs and gcc. Without appach&mysql&gcc, hardly anyone would use Linux. Personally I think Linux is only suitable for doing one thing, for example being a server or doing graphics processing or computation or programming. If you make it do two things, like being both a desktop computer and a server, it will definitely mess up your system. As for people in China packaging Linux up to make money, I despise that very much. The system is full of bugs, it has basically no Chinese compatibility ability at all, and they still have the nerve to brag about it. If it’s just to save money, you’d be better off installing DOS instead.

I think it should be a matter of the main direction of development. Linux and Unix come from the same line, and were originally aimed at network services. So they are powerful but complicated to operate...
Originally the Windows series was aimed at stand-alone machines or personal users, so it was simple and convenient to use and had a friendly interface, but it wasn't that great in networking. WinNT can compete with Unix/Linux when it comes to operational complexity.
But since Win2000, the situation has changed... Starting with the Windows2000 series, besides inheriting the original Windows series' advantages of convenient operation and a friendly interface, its network functions were also greatly strengthened. Although it still can't match Unix/Linux, the gap is already very small... If Unix/Linux doesn't change its old situation of complicated operation, sooner or later it will be淘汰呢

Because Windows is a purely commercial operating system, its after-sales service is very good and guaranteed. This is what all users hope for, especially newbies. Therefore, the Windows series is bound to become the overlord of the desktop field, and that means it cannot possibly become the leader in the server field.

Windows, as a GUI program for DOS, undoubtedly makes the DOS world even richer and more powerful.

No competition, no development. If there were no linux, lutos, unix...... then Microsoft's operating systems up to Win2k would already be enough to satisfy everyone's needs.

Since linux still hasn't disappeared from the face of the earth, then it has its reasons for existing.
