LH MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000 /L:%CDROM%
Shouldn't what comes after /L be the drive letter adding :%CDROM% is that okay |

You can specify the drive letter. Using %cdrom% specifies a variable. Entering %cdrom% will take you to the CD-ROM drive letter.
