Why use it in 98! It seems there's no need!

It doesn't really matter whether you use it or not, there's not much difference, and this command has to be used in pure DOS. Machines have such high hardware specs now, it doesn't do much!

The following is a quote from 无妄★模拟 at 2003-8-14 17:23:01:Then have you tried installing WinXP without loading smartdrv and with smartdrv loaded? Try it first, then say whether smartdrv is useful or not..... |

It seems smartdrv.exe is loaded automatically in Win98.

If you want speed and still don't load smartdrv, I've tried it several times, and the fastest it ever finished was 7 or 8 hours. More than once I went to sleep after 12 at night, and by 9 in the morning it still wasn't done. I almost went crazy from trying it. Now whenever I hear about installing xp without smartdrv (dos), I feel like going to sleep, hehe! Only installing under win is fast. I installed it for a friend on a machine bought in 2001, and it finished in a bit over 20 minutes, maybe not even 20 minutes. Anyway, it was very fast.
Best not try it, it's tiring!:( |

Not loading smartdrv.exe when installing under win98? Who said that? If you don't add it, it's still just as slow

The following is a quote from 无妄★模拟 at 2003-8-14 17:23:01: When installing 2000 and xp, you must load smartdrv. If you don't add smartdrv, you'll regret what you've done. |

If you use the original XP CD, then you don't need to add it. Original edition, not necessarily a genuine licensed copy.. hehe |

You must load smartdrv, otherwise just copying the files takes more than 2 hours.

If you boot from the WIN2000/XP CD to install, then the WIN2000 installer already comes with its own cache program, but it's still recommended to copy the files to the hard disk first, then load SMARTDRV under DOS. At least that does much less damage to the CD-ROM drive, and it's also faster.

Absolutely impossible, you're obviously just posting chatter.
