What is DOS? I have looked for many answers on this forum, but I'm still confused. What is DOS? Is it a command-line operation mode??? Is it real mode??? Is it real-time operation??? Is it a powerful operating system (this answer is the most bewildering)??? Is it the utilization of conventional memory??? Is it its own simplicity??? Is it??? In the end, I thought and thought, and I came up with a not-so-good answer. I don't know if it's right. Haha, first self-mockery. The essence of DOS is actually "historical DOS", which is some people's past, and some "beautiful imaginations" about the past. [ Last edited by jinDOS on 2009-8-23 at 21:34 ]

jinDOS I share the same feeling about your answer! But for certain specific fields, DOS has irreplaceable features.

What is DOS??? No one can say for sure!!!!! Personally, I think DOS is like the foundation for building a house. You don't need it, but you can't do without it... Some people might say that DOS is not needed now. I don't think so. Without DOS, how do you install the system? Some people might say use PE, CD, etc. Actually, these kinds of media have someone else's DOS boot already written for you, and you just use it. If there is a laptop, no CD drive, no floppy drive, and the system is broken, how do you reinstall the system... The friend above said well: For some specific fields, DOS has irreplaceability...

DOS is the abbreviation of Disk Operating System. Only when a computer has an external storage device does DOS come into being. DOS is not "irreplaceable", but due to the storage conditions at that time, DOS had to be concise.
