I'm a complete DOS newbie,
How come the MS-DOS I downloaded only has two files, one read and one .img. When I put it onto a floppy disk, it simply won't boot by itself at startup.
Some of this I don't understand?

The IMG file is a floppy disk image. You need to use HDCOPY or similar software to write it out to a floppy before it can be used. If you just put it in directly, it won't work...
