MS-DOS 7.10 is currently the best and most practical DOS version, with greatly improved functionality compared with MS-DOS 6.x. Its boot disk and full installation edition can both be downloaded from the website and the forum. Because MS-DOS 7.10 fully supports FAT32 drives, large hard disks, long filenames, etc., the classic and well-known Windows 3.x can make effective use of these features. By running Windows 3.x under MS-DOS 7.10, Win3.x can also run very well on FAT32 drives and large hard disks. Win3.x is fully compatible with MS-DOS 7.10.
To run Win3.x under MS-DOS 7.10, first install Win3.x through the "MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition"; after installing DOS, then install Win3.x, and after rebooting the system should already be configured automatically. To enter Win3.x, just directly type the WIN command at the DOS command line as usual. The method for entering Windows 9x is very similar as well; please see the related articles for details.
However, there are some details of use that are worth noting. Since Win3.x is relatively old and does not support creating a permanent swap file on FAT32 drives, please use a temporary swap file instead (note: this is the default value, and using it is completely normal), or just use a permanent swap file on a FAT16/FAT12 drive. Some programs (such as MS Word 6.0, etc.) require file sharing functionality; in that case, please make sure the file sharing program SHARE command has already been loaded before running Win3.x (usually it is loaded automatically after DOS is installed).

That is to say, if the physical memory in the system is very large (for example 512MB), it will also be recognized and usable by MS-DOS 7.10 and Win3.x running on it. Suppose the physical memory in the system is 512MB, and the PageOverCommit value above is 2. Since their product at that time (512MB*2=1024MB) is not greater than 1024MB, then when Win3.x is started again everything should be normal. Note: this setting only needs to be modified when the system memory is very large (>256MB) and Win3.x shows the above error message at startup. Under normal circumstances, Win3.x can naturally start and run normally, and no modification is necessary.
One more thing is worth noting: before entering Win3.x, please run WIN directly from the root directory (for example C:\), or after exiting Win3.x execute commands such as CD\ to switch the current directory (or directly execute CD\WINDOWS), or you can set up a batch file (for example with the filename W32.BAT) to carry out the above operations automatically, in order to avoid the error prompt that may appear in some cases when Win3.x exits.
