There is a file named m。avi on drive E. It cannot be deleted under winxp. I used the MSDOS7。1 boot disk provided by the moderator, but still could not delete it. My hard disk partitions are C, D, E, F, all of them NTFS partitions. Under drive E I typed DEL M。AVI, and it showed that it could not be deleted, and it seems even the DIR command can no longer be used... Moderators and all experts, please show me the right way forward!!!!!!

What you said is fairly clear. But what exactly is the displayed message? I want to know the details.

It's not a folder, it's an .avi file. When I dir the E drive where that file is under DOS, what appears is the original file directory from XP. But when I dir drive F, the whole screen shows garbled text and loops endlessly. I had no choice but to press F12 to stop it, and then commands like dir stopped working. The problem now is, how do I determine how the drive letters under DOS correspond to the drive letters under DOS!

My XP has also had cases where something could not be deleted. It was a file from a failed copy, but after some time passed, it could be deleted after all…………

Could it be that the FAT table is messed up,,,, forced shutdowns often cause this problem, try diskman,, let me think about it

XP seems to use the latest ntfs-5…! It's different from ordinary ntfs!
