mbr is related to the files for system booting; when I used to mess with linux I had to change it too,
I guess it needs to be rewritten, did you back up your mbr? |

I didn't make a backup (which finally led to reinstalling the system)
5555555555......., I'd like to ask about “rewrite MBR”: does it mean rewriting the old XP MBR, or the MBR after it was overwritten (the one that boots straight into DOS)? A serious newbie thanks you very much! [ Last edited by slx8528 on 2009-2-7 at 15:50 ] |

I think it's a partition boot record problem. The DOS and XP mbr are the same. You can install grub and directly load ntldr.
