My laptop crashed a couple of days ago, and I want to reinstall the system. But after booting with the system boot disk that came with the computer and entering DOS, I found that it couldn't read floppies anymore, and FORMAT on a floppy doesn't work either. But it can read the system boot disk that came with the machine! What kind of weird problem is this! Please give me some advice, experts!

They're both floppies. And the floppy drive is the original one that came with it.

Can it be used under WIN? Is the icon normal too? Is it only that the floppy drive can't be used in DOS?

The floppy drive works under win, and the icon is normal too. It's only under DOS that it can't be used!

If the system boot disk (floppy) that came with the computer can boot ---> then that proves one thing:
your floppy drive works.
And if it can read the system boot disk that came with the machine ---> then that proves another thing:
your floppy drive can read MS-DOS-formatted floppies.
After entering DOS, you found it can't read floppies, and FORMAT on a floppy doesn't work either. ---> then we can infer:
the floppy you're trying to read is bad??
No, that's not right, the floppy is good??? ---> then there's only one result:
your floppy format is wrong. It's not an MS-DOS-formatted floppy. It could be an i-macs one, or a unix one, or a floppy recognized by some other operating system. But it's not an MS-DOS-formatted floppy!
