Why can't IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS be copied with COPY anymore? - China DOS Union Forum

Today I used COPY to copy system files from a CD to the hard disk. I hadn't done this before, and unexpectedly found that IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS on the source disk were not copied to the target disk. When I tried to COPY these two files separately, it still didn't work, and it said "Access denied opening file IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS". Can someone help me!

Use the ATTRIB -h -r -s command to change the file attributes and that'll do it~~
For example: to change the attributes of the msdos.sys file, just use this command
ATTRIB -h -r -s c:\msdos.sys
Then you can copy it~

Thanks for the reply, but the system tells me I can't use ATTRIB, it's an external DOS command. Do I need to download this ATTRIB file????

2。attrib Without any parameters, it can display the attributes of each file.

Also, if the hard disk does not have these two files, it cannot boot from the hard disk. And simply copying these two files from the CD to the hard disk is no use either! You must use the sys command to transfer these two files to the hard disk! Because these two files (mainly IO.sys, I think) must be placed in some special place on the hard disk; putting them elsewhere is useless. And the SYS command can accurately transfer these two files to a specific place on the hard disk.

Of course, if when copying other files you run into “Access denied opening file”, you can use the above method and use attrib to change the file attributes first, then copy them.

The machine's DOS is MS-DOS5.0A-H, a very unusual DOS version, and it's been giving me a headache. I'm also not very familiar with DOS, but after fiddling with it for a few days, I find that I'm starting to like DOS. Maybe I'll be asking you for advice again in the future! Hope you won't mind giving me some guidance!

The 9821 really is old!
And now there's another problem. I also copied the PC9821-specific WIN98 system files onto the hard disk, and I handled IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS the way everyone said. But after I rebooted, a new problem came up. After the memory check finished, DOS started booting. After the DOS version was shown, a line of Japanese appeared below. The rough meaning is that the DOS versions are different, so program writing was terminated. Then it hangs. Can anyone help me analyze what the reason is???
