. In DOS, both. .. and \ refer to directories.
. refers to the current directory. For example, "del ." is to delete all files in the current directory, and "copy . a:" is to copy all files in the current directory to drive A. .. refers to the parent directory of the current directory. For example, "cd .." can go to the parent directory of the current directory, and "copy a .." is to copy file a to the parent directory. The single "\" refers to the root directory of the current disk. For example, "dir \"" will list the files in the root directory of this disk. Of course, "cd \windows" is to enter the windows sub - directory under the root directory of the current disk. |
