My computer is running Win98. When I click Start -- Shut Down -- Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode, the screen goes completely black and there is no prompt at all. What's going on? Thanks.

If you hold down the CTRL key during startup, enter the selection menu, and choose item 5 (DOS command line), can it enter DOS normally?
If it can, then maybe the problem is with the process of shutting down the computer, not with the process of entering DOS. |

Even if you get into DOS that way, it still doesn't count as pure DOS, but DOS in an application's SHELL mode. To enter pure MS-DOS 7.10, just press Alt+F5 during startup to enter directly.

Just switch to a different version of the graphics card driver and it'll be fine.
