Why is it that under pure DOS, when I use the DIR command I can't browse the files on the hard drive.., but I can browse the files on floppy disks and CDs? When installing XP under DOS, the CD drive letter that gets loaded automatically is drive E, and using the DIR command shows what's on the CD, but I can't browse files on any of the other drives. My hard drive is 60GB, with 5 partitions. Could it be that the drive letters in pure DOS are different from the actual drive letters~~~ I'd appreciate any advice from you experts!!

Maybe there's something wrong with the hard drive.。。。。。Also, using a boot disk will create a virtual partition after the hard drive partitions,,,, that is, the last hard drive partition letter + 1 = the CD drive letter

DOS drive letters are the same as what you partitioned with fdisk... Which version of DOS are you using??

Maybe his machine has 2000 or XP installed and uses the NTFS format

Yeah, that should be it, otherwise the CD-ROM drive letter wouldn't be E either…………

If that's the case, then I really can't figure out how DOS was installed, hehe
