The cmd under XP and MS DOS 7.1 are two entirely different things and cannot be compared.

Are you installing Windows? Now the msdos71 version can automatically rewrite the boot menu. I don't know where the DOS you installed came from.

Can GRUB4DOS be used? I forgot. I have to ask an expert. I remember that GRUB4DOS can boot XP without using the MBR of XP. Maybe I can try this method, which is relatively fast.
