I formatted a minimal boot disk myself, then put some commonly used DOS commands on it, but I can only use those commands when I'm at A:\. How do I make them usable in any directory (I remember the Win98 boot disk could do that)...

Use PATH=A:;%PATH%      ;%PATH% is the original external command search path. If it wasn't set before, you can put the path where you store the external commands here, separated with ";".
