I went to the official FreeDOS site and saw the following images available for download:

fdboot.img 1.4MB
fdbasecd.iso 7.9MB
fdbasews.iso 48.8MB
fdfullcd.iso 152.8MB
fdfullws.iso 241.5MB

The first one is easy to understand, it is a floppy boot image. The second seems to be the basic FreeDOS CD image, but what are the next few? Could it be that FreeDOS also has “basic” images and “full” images?
Thank you for your answer!

I am a DOS enthusiast. I think most DOS enthusiasts are relatively older (I’m in my 30s), having played with computers since the 286 era, and the first thing we came into contact with was DOS. That feeling of those “innocent years” is really something only people who lived through it can understand. Even though I use XP now, I still often go into the DOS prompt to do things; the efficiency is higher than always going in and out of XP menus. Now I want to install FreeDOS and get an idea of how DOS is developing now.
In my opinion, making FreeDOS Chinese-localized is extremely important. As long as there is complete DOS documentation, it will be very easy for FreeDOS to spread. By Chinese localization I mean both localization of the software interface and localization of the help documentation. The former has already been done very well (because there is the foundation of MS-DOS Chinese localization, and there is source code that can be recompiled), but the latter still needs improvement. I have a DOS 6.22 user manual with a list of all internal and external commands and detailed usage parameters, which greatly facilitates DOS operation. Hardware development now is worlds apart from the MS-DOS era. If FreeDOS had such a list, with detailed introductions to new commands and new parameters, and it were printed into a booklet or published as a book, it would be of great help in promoting FreeDOS. Here I hope friends who know both English and computers will put in a bit more effort for this work!;)
Let’s all exchange more in the future!

I understand now. The difference is that they are basic and full installation images, and whether source code is included.
Thanks

Wasn’t it already explained very clearly in reply #2? You couldn’t still fail to understand it, could you? If you still don’t understand it, please look it up in a dictionary.
