How to boot DOS 6.22 (fat32) from Linux? My system is Linux, and I have partitioned a space for DOS. After adding label:dos in LILO and specifying the partition, I can't enter DOS. Is it because the boot file is missing?!

Install MS-DOS 7.10 with LILO or GRUB. DOS 6.22 does not support FAT32 and large hard drives.

You can use syslinux for multi-booting.

I first formatted a piece of fat32 space on the machine and copied MS-DOS 7.1 downloaded from here. Then I manually added statements in Linux's LILO to boot this fat32 partition, but still can't get in?!
I made a MS-DOS boot disk with XP to boot the system. After entering, I can see the copied MS-DOS 7.10 on the C: drive (system default), but why are only QBASIC, EDIT and some programs available? Format, fdisk and some programs all prompt incorrect ms-dos version. Why is the version incorrect? |

The version is definitely incorrect. You use the XP boot disk to enter. The XP boot DOS kernel is the same as WinME, which is 8.0. Did you just copy during the installation? Then the DOS boot sector is lost...

Then how to install without losing the boot sector?
I just copied it after downloading, and I always thought that DOS just needed to be copied. Then how should I do it? Please experts spare no words and give more guidance!!! |

Just use the corresponding version of the sys command to transfer the boot information to the partition where DOS is located...
