I ran pal.exe under DOS (I believe everyone knows what this is, right? ^_^)
The following message came up:
Check CD_ROM .... in J
Free 53408 bytes
XMS = -1 k
Error: XMS is not enough 830k
But after I checked with mem, I found that my XMS still had 251,881k free~~

Why is this?

That's because PAL does not support more than 32MB of free XMS memory. Please use tools like XMSDSK to reduce the free XMS memory to below 32MB before running PAL.

I just used XMSDSK to make a 230000k virtual disk, and it still didn't work
It showed this:
Check CD_ROM .... in J
Free 53408 bytes
XMS = 25977 k
FM ..... OK

Then it hung, the keyboard locked up, and I could only press the reset button
I also tried using up even more XMS, all the way until only about 4000k was left, and it still hung
I don't know why??

Then that must be another reason. . . After using XMSDSK, the XMS memory test is already passing now. But the other settings are not correct.
