1。FAT and NTFS are completely two different animals. They have almost nothing in common.
2。Older versions of DOS can be installed on FAT16 partitions, newer versions can be installed on FAT32 partitions, and DOS cannot be installed on NTFS partitions. 3。XP can be installed on FAT16/32 or NTFS partitions. 4。A hard disk needs a driver. D:, E:, F: are disk partitions, and generally do not need drivers, unless you want XP to recognize a LINUX partition, or DOS to recognize an NTFS partition, but I don't think that kind of thing should be called a disk driver. 5。Installing DOS and XP on one partition is completely possible; LINUX has to be installed on another partition. 6。That thing under XP is not DOS. DOS, like XP, is a complete operating system. |

I don't know whether my understanding is right or not???
If there are mistakes, I hope you'll point them out If my understanding is basically more or less right, I still hope you'll leave a few words, otherwise I don't even know whether it's right or wrong!!! Thank you very much!!!! |

1。More or less. Most operating systems have their own dedicated partition formats.
2。MS-DOS 6.22 and earlier are all old DOS, while the MS-DOS 7.1 on this forum is a newer DOS. The latter supports large memory, large hard disks, FAT32 partitions, and long filenames. 4。What you said about “an OS recognizing a partition format it originally does not recognize” has nothing to do with “installing different operating systems on the same hard disk.” Because installing one operating system does not depend on another operating system. 5。Two operating systems can only coexist on a partition format that both of them recognize. Or you can use methods like a virtual file system, for example a virtual floppy drive. There is no D: E: F: in LINUX; that is how Windows and DOS identify partitions. 6。The command prompt under XP is not called DOS. Its functions may be greater than DOS's, because it operates on XP. |

First of all, many thanks to Michael for the patient explanation. I've benefited a lot from it (first time posting and I already ran into a kind person. Hehe...) It makes me feel this site is really very good... thanks again!!!
Second, sorry. Because I was in a hurry to ask, I posted this in the wrong place. Sorry. If a moderator sees this, please help move it. Thanks for the trouble, thanks for the trouble (of course if you don't have time then forget it; after all, experts like you have many more important things to do.) Finally. I'm very honored to have found this site and joined it, I need to pick up the pace (aiya, my shoe fell off) Hehe, I really hope I can reach your level as soon as possible (hehe, looks like it won't happen without 2 or 3 years) So that I can also go help other people.... Thanks again to Michael for the answer Also, I've made a plan for myself, but I don't know if it's feasible? I'll download VMWARE I'll download ISO files for DOS, XP, and Linux Then install each OS by itself Then install them mixed together (this is more troublesome... if something goes wrong I may have to come back again!) That's all for now... talking isn't as good as doing... I'll get started and finish these things first, then talk more... A journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet :P:P:P |
