I just downloaded the MS-DOS 7.1 CD installation edition from the forum, but I don't know how to install it. I also don't really understand the installation method on the forum. When I run it with a virtual CD-ROM drive, nothing happens.... I don't have a CD burner, so do I have to burn it onto a disc?

Download the floppy-disk edition, extract it to the hard drive and install it. If you don't have any special need, you'd better just stick with WIN. Hehe.

You can use vmware or vpc to install it, mainly for writing DOS programs and playing DOS games
