I think DOS is still better. But at present some viruses still can't be cleaned completely under DOS, and I don't know why.

The following is quoted from nre's post at 2003-5-11 18:52:48: Then I guess that's probably a quality problem with the antivirus software. Try switching to a better DOS antivirus program. |

Some DOS antivirus software can only kill a few thousand kinds of viruses; their virus databases are only a few hundred KB.
MCAFEE is recommended. Its antivirus under DOS can also handle nearly 70,000 kinds, about as many as under WINDOWS, and the virus database is 2.4M. |

MSAV bundled with DOS6 can only kill 1234 kinds of viruses! But the latest F-PROT for DOS can kill more than 80,000 DOS/WIN/Unix viruses!

NORTON 7.0 Chinese Enterprise Edition's DOS module. Its virus database can be updated at the same time as NORTON's virus database under WIN, so the number of viruses is not a problem. But I think there are some problems with its DOS module, and it misses some viruses.

The following is quoted from flyguitar's post at 2003-5-11 21:58:29: Don't Kingsoft and Rising have DOS antivirus disks? |

Quite a few programs have DOS antivirus disks, but with a virus database capacity of only a few hundred KB, how many viruses can they kill?
As for those claiming "XXXXX kinds," I wonder how many people actually believe that? In this respect, NAV and MCAFEE both do a pretty good job. One more thing: MCAFEE's DOS emergency disk also kills very few viruses; what I mentioned in my earlier reply was not this one. |

You can't possibly get infected by every virus either...
Generally, it's enough if it can kill the common widespread viruses. Very few people would still have those ancient viruses... |
