Anything involving hard disk partitions should be handled carefully.
I don’t encourage everyone to do this on a hard disk with important materials on it.
If it’s on a hard disk you don’t care about even if it gets formatted, then do as you like...

ko20010214’s reminder is right, partitioning is an operation that needs to be treated cautiously. Once something goes wrong, even killing yourself would be too late. If I were going to partition, I’d definitely back up the whole drive first, that’s the only way I’d feel 100% safe!
