A Few “Small Tricks” for DOS Applications - China DOS Union Forum

1. Making clever use of " . .. , "

In DOS, "." stands for the current directory, while ".." stands for the parent directory, so "CD 。。" goes back to

the parent directory; "DEL 。" deletes all files in the current directory; "DIR," lists files of all attributes; "ATTRIB," removes

all attributes from files, and so on.

2. Building a “fully Chinese-localized” DOS environment

For beginners whose English is not very good, facing a screen full of “foreign text” under DOS can always feel a bit intimidating. At this time, you can use

the HELP.HLP from Chinese DOS 6.22 to replace the HELP.HLP of Western DOS 6.22, and then combine it with the dynamic translation function

of the Tianhui Chinese character support system, and you can get a “fully Chinese-localized” Western DOS 6.22, which is very convenient.

3. Making flexible use of DIR

DIR is probably one of the most commonly used and most useful commands in DOS, and after DOS 5.0 its functions also became more powerful:

"DIR 文件名/S" lets you conveniently search for files, "DIR/A:H" only lists hidden files,

"DIR/O

" lists files sorted by date, and so on.

When typing in Chinese, the "dot" on the keypad at the right side of the keyboard does not turn into a "full stop".
