I'm a newbie, and I want to ask the experts how much time is needed to learn DOS well, that is, to handle generally common problems.

This depends on how much you want to know about DOS and how much you can master. To handle general problems, it should be enough to study intensively for about a year. =_= |

If you have a computer foundation and have also been exposed to a little programming, the basic commands for getting started should be learned quickly. If you want to go deep, there's no bottom line, and it can't be learned in several years.

Maybe in the future, our forum will also hold professional DOS basic knowledge training classes. At that time, we will collect a symbolic fee, and then several moderators will stand on the podium with their heads held high...
"Students, please be quiet..." "Now each person types 'dir' 100 times..." ~:) After several sessions, there is a unique DOS online ability testing system on the forum. Any employer is not allowed to hire those who fail the test~:) |

Learning is not like doing arithmetic problems; the answers are all relatively clear. If you want to learn DOS well, first of all, it depends on whether you have a strong interest in it and that perseverance. If you have them, learning any new things and knowledge will be twice the result with half the effort. (DOS is certainly no exception.)

Yeah, I just lack patience. I hope to communicate more with the big shots, learning by observing them, hehe

It's very quick if you start simply, but it's not that easy if you want to master it thoroughly.

Does DOS have too much to do with computer hardware? Does it require a foundation?

A tall building starts from the ground. For solid mastery of knowledge, the foundation is first and foremost the premise!
What you refer to as DOS, is it command-line programs like command.com under 9X and cmd.exe under NT, or do you want to systematically learn the system software MSDOS 7.10 (this is the real meaning of the DOS system)? Programs like command.com and cmd.exe are just a microcosm of DOS! Personally, I think it has little to do with computer hardware, especially for command.com and cmd.exe; but for the DOS operating system, it's a different story! If you don't quite understand, just imagine the Windows system. If you want to learn a program under Windows, or want to comprehensively learn this Windows system, it's not hard to understand what I'm saying.
