There are many hidden parameters in commands under DOS. For example, “dir *.” only displays folders. I want to get more materials about this.

If you understand how to use the commands above, I think that's enough. As for hidden parameters, that means Microsoft didn't publish them, and their use is not very great either. For some commands' hidden parameters, you can go take a look at WENGIER's New DOS Era.

The following is quoted from BoC's post on 2002-11-2 22:47:57: Not very accurate. It can only be said that “dir *.” simply does not display files that have an extension (suffix); everything else is displayed. If your file has no suffix (extension), it will also be displayed. This is not some hidden parameter, it's just the result of it following its rules. And if the result you got only shows directories, that is a special case: there just happen to be no files without extensions in your current directory. If you want to look at hidden parameters, then do as the reply above says and “go take a look at WENGIER's New DOS Era”! |

It seems a few parameters are still missing, for example DIR's /4 isn't included.

I think simply telling everyone these parameters doesn't mean very much. The key is for everyone to learn how to look up DOS command help themselves.
I wouldn't carry a whole detailed DOS command reference around with me either, and it's impossible for me to remember so many parameters, but if I'm not clear about some parameter, I'll try to look up DOS command help and understand it on the spot. So I spent some time writing an article called "How to Get Help for DOS Commands", and I hope it helps everyone. Of course, yiyesong's article is very good. I like it very much too. Everyone is welcome to post more! Especially things like yiyesong's, with relatively high value, hehe... As long as it's your own心得 and experience, or something you saw elsewhere that you feel would be helpful to everyone, you can post it. |

Actually, most of those parameters are used for special situations. Ordinary users generally do not need them under ordinary circumstances, so don't force too much stuff on people. As long as it's practical, that's enough, otherwise they may lose interest.
