There is no serial number on the CD-ROM itself, unless it's added by pirates.

The 98 serial number is general, just copy one casually.

There is no [serial number] in the genuine CD, it's in the instruction manual of the box. For pirated CDs, look for sn.txt or serial number.txt. If it's in Chinese, you also need to load the Chinese system under DOS, which is troublesome.

EDit is an external command, and you can use Type text file name to view it. Please note: The Type command cannot use wildcards.

EDIT found in XP can also be used under DOS, and I am using the EDIT under XP

I usually use type sn.txt. edit has dependencies, heh heh
