After I used deltree /y *.* to delete all files on drive C, then used sys A:c\ to transfer the boot files to drive C, and restarted the machine. Is DOS already installed on drive C in the machine?

It is sys c:
It did two things:
1 wrote DOS boot information (DBR) to sector 0 of drive C:
2 copied IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS COMMAND.COM to the root of C
That gives you a minimal DOS, but you can only use internal commands (in COMMAND.COM)

Many thanks for the help, expert. I'd also like to ask, if I use a 98SE boot disk to restart the machine into DOS, can I then use external commands, for example FORMAT C:/U/S
