First copy everything in the I386 folder to the hard disk, then enter that directory from DOS and run WINNT.EXE inside it.

You don't have to copy it to the hard disk, you can run Winnt directly in the i386 directory on the CD.

It's still better to copy it first, to avoid trouble later.

Right! I've also always copied the installation files to the hard disk first before installing. But running SFC under Win2000 seems to have a problem: if it detects that a file is damaged, it insists on looking for the recovery file on the original fixed Win2000 installation CD. Even a DIY-made CD won't do, because it only looks along that "hard-coded" path. In this respect it's not like Win98, where you can specify the path manually. I wonder how everyone solves this problem.

Actually it doesn't really matter which method you use, it's just a difference in speed. But when installing XP under DOS, it's still recommended to run the SMARTDRV disk cache program first, otherwise just wait... I guess your XP might not finish installing until tomorrow morning, hahaha.......................

You can change the Windows installation source path by modifying the registry. SFC's default search path will then change accordingly.
