I currently have an XP system on drive C, and I want to install a DOS. I made the following attempt:
First, I booted into DOS with a boot disk, copied IO.SYS,MSDOS.SYS,COMMAND.COM to drive C, and then used BOOTPART. The command was: BOOTPART WIN98 C:\BOOTSECT.DOS "MS-DOS", but after I restarted, when I clicked "MS-DOS" on the dual-boot menu, it still would not boot. I don't know the reason, and I hope everyone can help me. Also, let me tell you that the BOOTPART I used is the latest version.

Then was the correct C:\BOOTSECT.DOS file successfully created? The latest BootPart is version 2.50, and it's on my MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk.

I successfully created the C:\BOOTSECT.DOS file. When I click “MS-DOS” on the dual-boot menu, there is only
a blinking cursor at the top of the screen, and even after waiting a long time nothing happens.

I've tried it, and there is no problem doing it this way. Please check whether the system files are damaged, whether the settings are correct, etc.

Thank you, Wengier. I found the reason. After using BOOTPART WIN98 C:\BOOTSECT.DOS "MS-DOS"
I was missing one command, namely BOOTPART REWRITEROOT:C: . Now it works.
