I currently have MaxDOS installed under XP.
I can remove it from Control Panel. My question is, if I format the C drive when I boot DOS to install XP, will DOS get formatted away too? And if it does get formatted away, can my system still install successfully?
This is something I'm very worried about. Please help, thanks.

Because MAXDOS is usually installed on drive C, if you format drive C then this DOS will naturally be gone too. If an error happens during the XP installation process (copying files) and a reboot is needed, then after reboot the hard disk will be unable to boot. Since the OP already said the machine has no CD-ROM drive, no floppy drive, and no USB, I'm afraid at that point you'd have to rely on booting from the network (but network booting is rather troublesome).

I suggest not formatting drive C. First, in XP move some important documents from drive C to another drive, then reboot and enter MaxDOS, and delete the Documents and Settings, Windows, and Program Files directories on drive C:

deltree /y c:\docume~1
deltree /y c:\progra~1
deltree /y c:\windows

Then you can reinstall XP without worries.

I haven't used MaxDos. I don't know whether it can be like Ms-dos7.X and use the parameter Format c: /s. If it can, then it'll be easy.
