Shutting down from the command line requires third-party software. You can find it from boot disks like those from Wengier. There is a RESTART in the WIN98 boot disk that can be used to restart, and it can also implement third-party software. Entering the WIN command at the DOS prompt can start WIN98. Just boot your computer, select the 5th item for DOS mode, and then try the WIN command.

There is a program called shutdown.com on Wengier's MSDOS 7.1 boot disk. Running shutdown s will shut down the computer, and running shutdown r will restart it.

I have tried shutdown software under DOS but none can shut down. Only the win.com of Win98 can shut down. But now I don't have Win98 installed. I don't know if the motherboard and power supply upstairs support soft shutdown. The shutdown command can generally make the mainboard with an ATX power supply power off.

In fact, you don't need to install Win98. You can just extract win.com from the installation files of the Win98 installation disk.
