How do I add a DOS boot option to the WinXP startup screen?
Experts:
I'm repairing a laptop with no CD-ROM drive and no floppy drive. When it was purchased, the crooked seller provided a GHOST image for restoring the system. But under XP, GHSOT won't run, and because there is no CD-ROM drive or floppy drive, there's no way to run DOS.
The method I thought of is to add a DOS boot option under XP's startup interface. (That is, the boot menu option like in a dual-boot setup.)
I think I can modify the boot.ini file in the root directory of drive C to add this option, but my skill level is limited, so I don't know exactly how to write it. Please advise!

Re sugarth: First, drive C should be a FAT32/FAT16 partition. You also need to get the hard disk boot sector from the win9x/dos series and save it as the binary file bootsect.dos in the root of drive C. Also copy the system files required by Win/DOS to the root of drive C (IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS COMMAND.COM etc.). Then you can add a line to boot.ini: C:\="DOS/Win9x Boot" There are other ways too: install Grub, then boot using a prepared DOS system image.

Willsort: No need to make it that complicated, right? Download vFloppy and use it to load the image file of an MSDOS 7.1 boot disk, and that will do.
