I have an old laptop, AMD 133, 1G, 32M. The operating system is WIN98. Usually I use a PC network card to surf the Internet and browse information. I always feel that the machine runs 98 too slowly. Sometimes listening to MP3 is even not smooth. I have installed LINUX, but I can't enter X WINDOWS at all, which is not suitable for home use.
Accidentally saw the DOS articles on your website, I am very surprised. Now there is no doubt that DOS is most suitable for my machine. It seems I have to FORMAT again. : ) I have a few questions to ask the moderator. How is the Chinese support of FreeDOS system? If I install FreeDOS, is it better to have FAT16 or FAT32 on my C drive? Also, how to configure a 10M, PCMCIA interface network card? Also, which language is most suitable for DOS programming? DJGPP C/C++ or TC? Looking forward to the response! Thanks a lot! |

Install MS-DOS, which is developed by Microsoft, and it has excellent performance!

If using WIN98 is also okay, it is suggested to use the first edition of WIN98. After compressing MP3 with DIETMP3, it will be better. You can also make a dual boot or directly use DOS7.1 of WIN98, because the space used by DOS is not large.

Just use MS-DOS 7.10. It doesn't matter if it's FAT16 or FAT32. Try running the MAKEBOOT.BAT in the MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk I made and prepare a floppy disk (of course, you can also use software like HD-COPY):
