I am using the Windows XP + SP2 operating system, and the file system of the partition is NTFS. So the latest current DOS version does not support the NTFS file system.
I have also read many articles about installing DOS under Windows, but when it comes to installing under the NTFS file system, many articles do not specifically say (of course, my level is limited, and it is normal that what the experts said is too simple and I can't understand it). I don't know if there is a good way to install DOS 7.10 in the same partition as Windows (the file system is NTFS), because I want to make an image, and it is convenient to have DOS under Windows.
Please help me, dear DOS experts, thank you very much!

......I think it should be impossible to install MS-DOS 7.1 under NTFS... MS-DOS cannot recognize the NTFS format without loading a plugin that supports NTFS.

I saw an article on the Internet about creating a pure DOS under the NTFS format (address: http://news.onlinedown.net/info/9000-1.htm), but there are some parts I don't understand, so... So please help me take a look. I want to install a DOS together with XP and make an image. You know, having a DOS here is very convenient, so.... Thanks a lot.

It is impossible to directly install pure DOS under the NTFS partition. However, the method of booting to pure DOS using a virtual floppy drive (such as GRUB for NTLDR, etc.) can also be used. But please note the difference between installing DOS and booting to DOS using a virtual floppy drive.

I used vfloppy, booted to DOS, and added a Ghost tool in it, which can be used, and I also think it's very convenient. But I heard that this software will have problems and cannot be used normally after defragmenting.
After I installed vfloppy, I tried it and it could be used normally, so I made an image, and then restored the just-made image and found that vfloppy could no longer be started normally.
So I still hope to see that it is best to install DOS on the system partition. I tried the software NTFSDOS Pro, but it didn't seem to work (of course, maybe I didn't use it correctly), so I came to ask for advice.

Then install the system partition on a partition other than C: Some rookies specifically use scanning programs to scan my computer over the network, and so far only the C: and D: drives have been seen, while other drives haven't been seen yet.

Here is the statement from dato on October 18, 2004 at 10:01:20:
Then install the system partition on a partition other than C:
Some newbies specifically use scanning programs to scan my computer's C: D: via the network, and other disks haven't been seen yet for the time being.

DOS 7.10 can only be installed under the FAT file system of the primary partition (usually the C drive). It cannot be installed in other ways or other partitions.
It would be great if it could be installed in other partitions. I have a 1GB partition in FAT format, specifically for communicating with DOS. I really want to install a DOS in this partition.
Can one disk create more than one primary partition?

According to the statements of the above - mentioned people, I have drawn the following conclusion: DOS does not support NTFS. DOS must be installed on the C drive (DOS 7.10 can be installed only under the FAT file system of the primary partition (usually the C drive), and it cannot be installed in other ways or on other partitions). But if the installed Win2000/Xp uses NTFS (C drive), then it cannot be installed. (There may be some simulation methods, but it seems not very easy to use.) But the webmaster has the following words: However, if the primary partition (usually the C drive) of the hard disk is in NTFS format, then DOS cannot be directly installed because DOS does not directly support the NTFS format. At this time, some multi - boot managers can be used, such as SPFDISK. After setting up the system partition with the multi - boot disk manager, directly installing MS - DOS 7.10 can realize coexistence with WinNT/2K/XP. I don't quite understand. Does the webmaster mean that the C drive carrying Win2000 is in FAT32 format, and other drives are in NTFS format. Then use that software to do some work (here I don't know what's going on either, can the webmaster introduce it in detail? For example, how to use that software!)

I used to partition the hard disk into one primary partition + one extended partition. Once I was determined to set the primary partition, which is C:, to NTFS format. The problem arose that when installing FreeBSD on the second hard disk, it insisted on writing to the primary partition of the first hard disk.

So my C: has been in FAT32 format all the time, and the Windows system partition is on J:. I don't like installing (programs) on C: or D:. Checking the system log often sees scans of these two partitions on the network. I've never installed DOS system on the hard disk; DOS systems are all loaded through vfloppy or grub for dos. Other DOS programs are placed on the FAT32 partition of the hard disk. Now the CD-ROM is broken, and the floppy drive is also removed. As for NTFS for DOS, it's better not to use it; there are a lot of problems.

Since the restored system can boot into XP, and just the image loaded by vfloppy is broken, then run vfloppy again. If you insist on using NTFS format, then you can find a WinPE boot CD on the Internet, or you can maintain it through the network.

Times are progressing, use WinPE.
