My computer is running WINME. I wanted to use EIDT to edit the two files config.sys/autoexe.bat, but found that they contain nothing at all. Why? Will it have any effect?

That's normal, no effect.

Under normal circumstances, WinME does not process these two files at all, and skips them directly, so even if they exist they're useless, unless you use a special patch.

Is WINME different from WIN98? Why doesn't it process these two files?

Yes, M$ deliberately removed real-mode DOS functionality from WinME, so under normal circumstances it does not process these two files. As for the more specific reason, I'm afraid only M$ themselves could answer that.

What exactly are these two files used for? Please enlighten me, thanks.
