cd windows enters the WINDOWS subdirectory under the current directory. If there is no WINDOWS subdirectory under the current directory, it will give an error.
cd \windows enters the WINDOWS subdirectory under the root directory of the current drive. Generally speaking, WINDOWS is usually installed in c:\windows. If you are currently in the root directory of drive C, then the two commands are equivalent, but if you are in other directories, only the second command can enter the WINDOWS directory. |

In cd windows, the directory windows is what is called a relative path.
And in cd \windows, the directory windows is what is called an absolute path. |
