Could someone tell me this: when I run Founder typesetting under pure DOS, it reports an insufficient memory error. When I run the MEM memory command, I find that expanded memory hasn't been loaded. So how exactly should it be loaded?

Add this in config.sys:
dos=high,umb
device=c:\windows\himem.sys
device=c:\windows\emm386.exe
If you don't have WINDOWS installed, you can change the "C:\WINDOWS" folder to "C:\DOS"

Getting an "insufficient memory" message is not caused by not having expanded memory, but by insufficient conventional memory. What imp mentioned is described on my website, or please see the MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk I made:
