Can Chinese be input and displayed without using software??
I'm using TURBOC2 to implement input and output in text mode, but UCDOS uses graphics mode, so while the program is running the screen display is very unstable: garbled screen, color changes, sometimes the text can't be seen.
What method can be used to input and display Chinese in text mode?
I'm using pure DOS, msdos7.10.

I've already been to "New DOS Era" and not a single Chinese tool there can be downloaded. Other software can be downloaded, though.

If you really don't want to use software, then I'm afraid you'll just have to write it by hand

The MS-DOS7.10 provided by this site comes with three Chinese-language platforms. You can choose to install TWAY, CCDOS97, China Dragon (I don't remember too clearly, it may be something else). All of them are quite good Chinese-language platforms and can satisfy most of your requirements. Of course, you can also look for some other standalone Chinese-language platform software that you like.

Your way of putting it, "built-in Chinese input functionality," has quite a problem. No operating system can implement only Chinese input functionality while being separated from a Chinese-language platform; WINDOWS can't either. It is through support for UNICODE at the system's underlying level that it realizes a broad kind of Chinese-language platform.

And the so-called built-in Chinese input in WINDOWS's MSDOS is actually PDOS95. It originated from PDOS6, and like TWAY and the others it is also a Chinese-language platform, and its functions and efficiency are even a bit worse. It's just that Microsoft bundled it for sale, so you don't need to download and install it again. And if you want to run it, any system can be made into a single command through a batch file; in fact PDOS works exactly this way. And you should also know very clearly that in many cases, tool software bundled with the system (that is, built-in) is not as good as tool software provided by third parties.

1. UCDOS does not use graphics mode, but character mode, and there are many character modes under DOS;
